Poplar Hotel,

Poplar, London

This 150-year-old, Grade-II-listed building at 117 Poplar High Street in East London was previously the Poplar Town Hall. This project saw the development of a modern and quirky boutique hotel that maintained the building’s original charm.

The inside was stripped out to allow for the installation of high-performance floors and partitions, thus allowing for a new floor layout and a reduction in sound travelling between guests’ rooms and communal areas. Many of the rooms benefited from the installation of a new mezzanine floor, providing internal balcony areas that make good use of the high ceilings and tall windows. As well as providing top-notch decoration and finishes, CMT also installed a new lift, restaurant, kitchen, gym, sauna and Jacuzzi.

Willow Court,

Kingston-upon-Thames, London

This exclusive, gated development of 18, high-quality apartments with car parking spaces is located close to both Kingston and Surbiton town centres. The project involved skilfully redeveloping and extending the existing build to a high standard and creating interiors that include high quality finishes with a modern minimalist design.

CMT’s strategy with the project was to bring as much light as possible into the apartments, cleverly enhancing rooms with the introduction of large windows and cantilevered balconies facing the rear, side and front, with etched-glass screens creating a harmonious visual. The architect has integrated lighting into the skin of the building as a deliberate response to the context of the site.

The exterior is finished with a soft terracotta-hued cladding with a combination of red- and chalk-coloured rendering, endowing it with a graceful appearance. The top storey exterior is wrapped with grey cladding and has been set further back to reduce the perceived mass of the building and minimise the visual impact. Furthermore, the elevations of the building have been recessed and clad with a variety of materials to enhance the appearance and allow them to sit elegantly within the site.

Apartments are provided furnished and have been neutrally decorated throughout. They are bright and spacious, and feature open-plan reception rooms with dining space, leading out to private balconies.
